Mice Away

Mice have a much stronger sense of smell than humans. If your home is infested with mice or if you want to keep these pests out, you can use their sense of smell to your advantage. These rodents don’t like certain scents and you can use them to prevent them from entering your home.

Here are some of the most effective scents that can help keep mice away and can work as your innovative mice pest control techniques.

Vinegar

Vinegar is one of the strongest scents, especially in its undiluted form. Its strong and sour smell is effective in repelling many pests including mice. No one wants to experience vinegar’s scent all over their home. So, it is better to use the following steps:

  • Mix vinegar and water in a spray bottle
  • Mist all the areas where you have noticed mice activity
  • Make sure to spray around floorboards, doors, closets, and countertops

Cinnamon

Cinnamon, similar to vinegar, is readily available in most kitchen pantries. Mice especially feel repelled by the scent of cinnamon. You can use cinnamon in a number of ways:

  • Take some cinnamon sticks and stash them in closets, drawers, cabinets, and under furniture.
  • You can also use cinnamon oil to spray the areas where the rodents frequent. Using cinnamon can also give a pleasant aroma to your home.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is considered among the best alternatives to pesticides. If you have a mice problem in your home, take some cotton balls, towels, or rags and dip them in the oil. Place them at points where you have noticed more mice activity. It is recommended to mix 15 drops of the oil with water and spray it over the targeted areas.

Cloves & Clove Oil

Cloves have a strong scent, but you will need more than a whole clove to get repel rodents. A better and more effective alternative is to use clove oil. Besides keeping the rodent away, the oil can also have positive effects on your well-being. If you want a different scent, you can consider combining clove oil with pepper, peppermint, or lavender.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne is a form of chili pepper with a very sharp smell. Mice are strongly repelled by both the taste and scent of it. It is recommended to sprinkle cayenne on all the areas where you have

noticed mice activity or at potential access points. Cayenne has the power to irritate the senses of rodents, forcing them to stay away from the place.

Tea Bags

Tea bags are also readily available in your kitchen and you can use them in a similar way as the other ingredients mentioned above. If you can, use peppermint tea.

  • Boil water and prepare the tea
  • Let the tea sit
  • Place the teabag in different areas in your home

The tea has a very strong smell and will repel rodents away. This is a simple and straightforward method, as it will work whilst you are enjoying your tea.

You can also use mint toothpaste and ammonia to keep mice away from your home. Ammonia smells similar to the urine of a predator and mice wouldn’t dare enter an area with the smell. Thus, you have more than enough Sydney pest control options for keeping mice away. Overall, the results you achieve will depend on various factors including the amount, location, reapplication, and the concertation of the oil.
